Will I get Married?

Just as in any field of social science, marriage is a sticky subject with severely right answers. Everyone agrees though that marriage is unlike anything else you will ever face, and no one is ever a hundred presents ready for it. Just as you can't fully know something, tell your experience. You can't fully know how to handle marriage until you experience it. Many people ask about how to get to marriage, which is a keystone question to marriage. Just as important as getting to marriage though if maybe more important is how to maintain a marriage, and make it better over time. A key point of marriage is knowing, knowing if you like the person, knowing what to do for your kids, and so much more. Knowing though starts before you say yes and after you say I do. It happens at all four levels of relationships. I've touched on the different levels in previous blogs, but to summarise the steps they are dating, courtship, engagement, and the subject of this blog marriage. Many tim...

The purpose of life

The purpose of life is a tough subject to talk about. I know I struggle with it. There are many right answers with many right outcomes. One purpose that many people tend to find in life is their significant other. When we talk about people's significant others, the phrases of, Oh they're dating, or they hang out all the time together, tend to come up. What even is dating? Is it better or worse than hanging out? Why can't I find anyone who wants to go on dates with me? We first have to know what the base definition of what a date is, and what a hangout is. When I say the word date, usually what comes to mind is some romantic dinner, a dance like prom and homecoming, or some super fun activity. Okay, these are all really great dates, but what do they all have in common? They all tend to be paid for, planned ahead, and paired off, so a date is planned ahead, paid for, and paired off. Hanging out on the other tends to be classified as everything that doesn't fit this cate...

Why don't you fit in with the norm?

Gender roles aren't important, right? I mean that what we hear from mainstream media is that gender roles, and in general, genders are not significant. I hope that you will take my writing on this subject with a grain of salt and sugar. What I mean by this is to find a takeaway lesson for yourself. However, I'm not a professional in the field of gender roles and gender. Many times we have to deal with delicate problems. Gender roles and gender itself are some of the most delicate issues in our society today. I am a simple-minded person. Please reach out if there is anything I say that is blatantly wrong or confusing to understand. Most likely I wasn't trying to communicate that message. Many times we take the roles gender plays as dominantly nature or dominantly nurture. Nature is simply what you were born with, and nurture is the environment in which you are raised. Many religions also use agency, or choice, as part of the nature and nurture graph to help understand ma...

Looking Classy

“You see I usually find myself among strangers because I drift here and there trying to forget the sad things that happened to me” (Fitzgerald, 66). The Great Gatsby, written by Scott Fitzgerald, is not the kind of book that typically comes up in a family relations class. However, its message of new money earned by those who made their own fortune, and old money, made by those who inherited their fortune, is relevant to family structure. Along with its message on adjusting to a new class. Through the description of the American class system. The class system is rarely talked about in American daily life, yet it still exists. We took a deep dive into the class system in America during Tuesday's class. The points that were made and my studying before class play perfectly into the story of The Great Gatsby so well. Through the studying and research that I've done. I've seen that there is a divide within the family when it comes to truly being part of the upper class. The...

A Family Worth Fighting For!

What makes your family, our family? Is it a set of rules? How does each of its members interact with one another? Throughout this week, these questions, and many others, have been circulating through my mind. My professor shared a story that was interesting to hear. My professor met a man who became a drug addict at 11. The man had come from a family that constantly fought with one another. When he did drugs, the fighting between his siblings and parents stopped, and they all turned on him. The man never liked drugs and didn't enjoy being in trouble. Seeing his family stop fighting with one another was enough of an incentive for him to keep going back to drugs though. My professor, a licensed family and marriage therapist, has told us that he has seen a trend of this with drug addicts. This view of thinking is both frightening and fascinating to see drug addicts through. This story made me wonder: How do we change our family dynamics to achieve a specific outcome to avoid a scena...

Like fire and brimstone holy cow!

My mind was blown this week by everything I learned, though I wish I could write everything out for you guys. Let's be real, you don't want to read ten pages of me going on and on, and I don't have the time to do that. I will put my sources at the bottom, so you can do your own research whenever you like. With that aside, let's dive into it. I'm just going to come out and say it. Cohabiting before marriage is such a bad idea. Even having sex outside of marriage is a bad idea. Women, I'm going to be honest with you, the big reason men would want to cohabit is to get sex out of you. They don't have marriage in mind. I know, I've never cohabited before, so you can ask, how would I know? In that case, read the resources . It clearly states that wanting to have a sexual relationship after your marriage is more fulfilling and happier. Sorry guys, but you're not off the hook yet, but this is also for women too. Sex is a tool to bring greater happiness in...
